There’s no getting around it; DOOM is back. The 2016 re-launch of the iconic franchise managed to do the unthinkable and exceeded expectation across the board. Well, except the multiplayer component which was developed by a team separated from the solo campaign’s development.
Online shortcomings aside though, the meat and potatoes of a DOOM game — solo play — gained unanimous praise. Next to super solid, fast-paced gameplay it was also a technically stunning game. And there’s more in store.
id Software parent Bethesda has confirmed that development on the next game is now in full swing and that we’ll be getting a first glimpse of the shooter sometime in 2018. Our guess is E3 in the summer with the launch following later in the year.
